The journal is the successor to “Uchenye zapiski MOPI im. N.K. Krupskaya”, which in 1978 received permission from the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission of the USSR and the State Committee for Publishing of the USSR for the right to publish the main results of doctoral dissertations.
In 1998, the scientific journal “Bulletin of Moscow Region State University " began to be published.
Since 2006, the title of the journal has been Bulletin of Moscow Region State University. Series: Physics and Mathematics.
Professor Yury Ivanovich Yalamov, who until 2008 worked as Vice-Rector for Science at the Moscow Region State University, should rightly be considered the founder of the journal. He did a lot of work to set up a publishing and editorial team of the journal and, in particular, to include the journal in the list of peer-reviewed scientific journals and publications reflecting the main scientific results of dissertations for the candidate and doctor of sciences degrees (a so-called Higher Attestation Commission list) in scientific specialties: 01.04.02 – Theoretical Physics (Physical and Mathematical Sciences) and 01.04.07 – Condensed-Matter Physics (Physical and Mathematical Sciences).
A significant contribution to the further formation and development of the journal was made by Professor Bugrimov Anatoly Lvovich. Over the years, the editorial board included many prominent scientists: A.K. Dadivanyan, A.V. Latyshev, D.L. Bogdanov, E.V. Gevorkyan and others.
Currently, the editorial and publishing board of the scientific journal includes 13 well-known scientists representing various branches of science from leading Russian and foreign universities: Lomonosov Moscow State University, University of Strathclyde (Great Britain), and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (China).
The journal is quite popular among specialists. It publishes papers of prominent scientists, teachers, doctoral students, postgraduate students and applicants from:
Lebedev Physical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS); Lomonosov Moscow State University; Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Siberian Branch of RAS; National Research Nuclear University MEPhI; Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (National Research University); National Research Center ‘Kurchatov Institute’; National Research University of Electronic Technology MIET; Bauman Moscow State Technical University; Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (Zhukovsky, Moscow region) and many other Russian universities. The journal also publishes papers of authors from near and far abroad.
Over the years of the journal's existence, the principles of publication ethics developed on the basis of international standards have been formed and are strictly observed; requirements for the content and design of manuscripts of future articles have been clearly formulated and presented.
Since 2023, the Journal has been called "Bulletin of Federal State University of Education. Series: Physics and Mathematics".
